Encountering the Yellow-footed Antechinus

We went looking for birds at Winton Wetlands recently but sometimes other things grab your attention. This little Yellow-footed Antechinus ran across across the track in front of us ( I was actually lucky to miss it with the vehicle) and it waited in the base of this eucalypt tree while I took a photo. We did see Flame Robins and Hooded Robins along with Double-barred Finch that morning, but this little one was my highlight.. #wintonwetlands

The Antechinus is an unusual species. This following quote comes from the Atlas of Living Australia.

“Antechinus are both polyandrous and semelparous; all males die after the mating period and most females die after weaning their offspring, while some females live to the next year to litter another brood.”

That is something to think about.
