The Aussie Bush is Wonderful in late Spring.

Here is a collection of photos from a trip into the hills during late spring (15th November 2025) at a place called Stringybark Creek Historic Reserve. It is in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range in Victoria. We visited as part of an organised birdwatching outing with our local Birdlife Australia group.

It was also the scene of a shootout between the Ned Kelly Gang and Police Mounted Constables on 26th October 1878. On our visit it was a quiet piece of bushland with birds and cicadas being the dominant sounds.

The vegetation is dominated by tall eucalypts mainly Messmate Stringyback species with a mix of understorey wattle. The smell of eucalyptus was in the air. The following images are a few of my favourites.

The long straight road with massive gums hemming it in.

Close up.

The Treetops at Stringybark Creek are the haven of birds.

Crimson Rosella

Eastern Yellow Robin

Yellow faced Honeyeater

Golden Whistler

The male Yellow-tailed Cockatoo is to the left with dull yellow cheek bands and pink eye ring. The female beside him has a brighter cheek patch, but no pink eye ring.

One of the unusual birds I heard was the Sahul CicadaBird. I managed to get this audio of it on my iPhone 15pro (only one audio here by me). A most unusual bird. It was a persistent noise in ther background at one site.
