Historic Bathurst, NSW

We did something quite unusual on New Year’s Day taking an 8hr road trip to Sydney, NSW to visit our family for a late Christmas catchup . The roads were reasonably quiet which was a great help. We stopped overnight in Cowra in southern NSW to break up the trip. It was a warm summer’s day when we set off taking the road least travelled to stay off the Hume Freeway as much as possible.

We stopped for a short break in Bathurst which is a relatively large city on the western side of the Blue Mountains. It’s past reflects a history of gold mining and the wealth it brought to the town. This collection of buildings reflects a time when making an impression into the future was important.

Here is a collection of images taken in Keppel Street which has the old court house buildings and the beautiful park opposite it. The Park has this spectacular War Memorial, the biggest I have seen outside a capitial city.

War Memorial, Bathurst NSW

The War Memorial in Machattie Park, Bathurst.

The main court building, with it’s spectacular clock tower building reminds me of the “Back to the Future” movie.

Bathurst is worth the journey on any trip west from Sydney over the Blue Mountains. History
