Oxley is in a beautiful part of the Ovens Valley and a great location to explore the paved walking trails and the birds. We did a short walk along part of Oxley -Milawa Pathway. It is about 10km south of Wangaratta at the gateway to the King Valley, a major wine producing area. This section, which runs beside a main road (locally called the Snow Road) can be very noisy at times, we were surprised that the birds did’nt seem to mind.
A male White-throated Treecreeper (on left) was close by climbing this small tree. https://ebird.org/species/whttre3 I love the huge claws on the feet which allows this bird to climb the rough barked trees looking for insects. This particular species is not very common you are more likely to see the similar Brown Treecreeper in this area.

This busy little Thornbill was hard to spot as it kept fluttering from tree to tree. There were other birds calling like the Spotted Pardolote, Eastern Shrike-tit, Gray Fantail, Ravens and the very noisy Sulphur Crested Cockatoo.

Here are our walk details from AllTrails.

The decorative mushrooms/toadstools are placed along this part of the trail. As you walk through Milawa there are other show pieces like Garlic, Blueberries and Strawberries.
