Swift Parrots: A rare siting near home on 7th July 2025

I recently updated to a Panasonic LUMIX DC-FZ80D camera, it’s a bridge camera with a fixed 20-1200 lens. I am quite impressed with it. I took it out for a test run on my morning walk. I saw all the usual birds that morning nothing out of the ordinary. When I got near the lower end on Blackboy Lane to my surprise in the some Blakleys Redgum were these Swift parrots. I had not seen them close up before as they are usually too quick, this time I got a relatively close photo to identify them. I did hear them on the 3rd July nearby but could’nt see them. There were 3 individuals in this tree, nothing like that big flock of 500-600 seen near Bendigo. I use eBird to record my sitings.

Swift parrots on Blackboy Lane
Blackboy Lane, Glenrowan. This is the habitat where I saw the Swift parrots. The roadside has good understorey and upper layers in a Box-Gum Woodland community on the eastern slope of the Warby Range. This is only a narrow corridor but I often see different birds here.
Rainbow Lorikeets also seen later that day, no editing.
